Alex-

Am I reading correctly that you have some sort of heuristics running to suggest alternatives? Or am I interpreting that differently than you intended... I ask because I'd be very interested in how you're thinking about that sort of functionality.

I don't have anything that suggests alternatives, although I have been building processes that allow me to find movies easier (by creating new dynamic genre's.)

What you describe wouldn't be difficult, but would be time consuming - I looked into it about 2 years ago. There are a number of individuals that have already correlated the IMDB & Netflix databases (example: http://www.igvita.com/blog/2007/01/27/c ... -datasets/
) to give you a starting point. Netflix has a section for each movie called "Enjoyed By Members Who Enjoyed" - if you just captured these, you would have a good, static recommendation engine.
