Issue with object 0013_0027 displaying value

Sat Jan 15, 2011 8:27 am

I have run into a strange problem with this object (see screen shot). It was working fine until recently and now it is blank. I am using this same object on the scene for other variables and it is working fine. I tried deleting and recreating the variable and I have ensured that there is a value in it. I also deleted the object, copied a working object with variable, and then changed the variable and get the same blank object. Thanks for any help.

What is in your label field?

And what are the values of those variables in MLServer?

I am using a variable from homeseer using the plugin. The value in the variable is 314 currently. I have a couple of other variables setup using the same object and similar values that work. I tried changing the variable in this object and it worked fine. I also tried deleting the variable in homeseer and in mainlobby and re-creating it and it doesn't work. I can display the variable in a text field on the screen. Weird?

Try manually changing the value of the variable to "50" and see if that works.
Typically the MainLobby gauges are for 0 - 100 scale.
If that doesn't work, copy / paste into a forum post from the button's label field what's there and a printscreen of the MLServer variable.

In this particular gauge the range is -70 to 220.

The ranges are detailed at the link above. Will any of the other library objects work for your design?

Thanks, that was the issue. I guess the value had never gone that high before!!

Is that a good thing or bad thing? I guess it depends on if we are talking dollars. :)

It's a bad thing for me. This is the screen where the kids record that they have done their chores. They get points and the points translate into allowance!

Cool idea.

Let me know if the other gauges will work. Otherwise, I might be able to add another gauge that adds more flexibility.

Here is a screen shot so you can see what I have done. (Note the new gauge!). We set it up as a Harry Potter theme - House Cup. To give credit - I got the idea from another poster who had done something similar and I copied his concept and then ran with it. When the kids cash out it sends an email to Mom & Dad letting them know and the amount. The next thing I want to do is have it check everything during the day and when certain chores are not done send them reminders! For the oldest, I plan to have it text her to really annoy her!!!

Smart concept Simon.

How are the points being logged, or rather, where? SQL, Access, flat-file?

I am using homeseer. The program is written in VB Script and I keep the points in an ini file.

Hopefully, neatly packed away so they can not alter their points.

I really like your idea. Where did you get the formula for chores vs points, etc? I've been wanting to do something like this.

I just assigned a decimal multiplier and played around until the money made sense. Initially I assigned a higher multiplier to the 11 year old vs. her younger twin sisters but there were complaints so I evened it out!
