The Generic Serial driver is the swiss army knife for automation.  You can control most all devices that are serial (ComPort or an Ethernet serial device).

The Generic Serial driver is part of the Control Family License.  Click below to purchase the license.

The native myServer Generic Serial device driver has been released. It is a member of the Control Family so you will create the primary serial devices in Family Manager and then the individual device control files are defined inside the driver itself. Similar to how the GlobalCache driver works.

At this point in time the driver is only capable of sending one-way commands to devices. A future enhancement will allow for two-way support. The serial device can either be connected via a local serial port or a networked device that uses a standard TCP connection.

Once the driver is installed go into Family Manager and add a new Control Family device. The important fields are "Address", "Port" and "Description". If your device is a serial device connected to a comm port you must fill in the Description field with the communication parameters that the serial port needs. e.g. 9600,8,N,1 for 9600 baud, 8 bits, No Parity, 1 Stop bit.

Once you do that go into the driver and you should see that the device has been listed in the devices tab.

You define the serial commands for your devices in the Serial Database tab. Serial data is entered as strings but if the device talks binary you must encode the string as a series of hex characters. In the example below you see that the Power On and Power Off commands need to be terminated with a Carriage Return - that's the hex \x0D at the end.

The driver supports one command called Send. i.e. Send|22~Marantz~Power On

A new Control Family device driver has been released supporting the Harmony Hub and related Harmony remotes. Using this driver will give you direct control of the Activities and Devices that have been defined on the Hub.

The Harmony Hub driver is part of the Control Family License.  Click below to purchase the license.

MSRP $99.99

The native myServer Harmony Hub driver has been released. It is a member of the Control Family so you will create the primary serial devices in Family Manager and then the individual device control files are defined inside the driver itself. Similar to how the GlobalCache driver works.

At this point in time the driver is only capable of sending one-way commands to devices. A future enhancement may allow for myServer to receive button presses from the remote. The Harmony Hub device is connected as a TCP networked device that uses a standard TCP connection.

Once the driver is installed go into Family Manager and add a new Control Family device. You just have to enter the Hub's IP address and select the Default IP Port.

When the driver loads it will connect to all the defined Hubs. There is no limit to how many Hubs can be used. Development was done using a Harmony Elite Hub and remote.

Command builder will show you all the available commands and I am attaching a sample scene that you can use in your apps for exercising the Hub(s).

Here are some screen shots from the sample app showing the app browsing the Hub and executing the functions.

This is the Hub Browser's home page. Notice that you can select Activities or Devices or the Global Power Off Hub Activity.

Select Activities and you can browse all the defined activities on the Hub. Clicking on the Activity name will run that activity on the hub.
Note: You can run that same Activity from a Macro by issuing the command Control|<<id>>~Activity~<<activity name>>

Here we have browsed to the Devices on the Hub. One entry for every Device defined. Click on a Device to see it's command groups.

Harmony breaks its Device commands into logical groups. Select the command group you want to execute.

Now we're at the Function level for the selected device and command group. Click on the command to execute that Function on the hub.
NOTE: You can also execute the function directly in a Macro using the command Control|<<id>>~Send~<<device name>>~<<device function>>

iPort surface mount installation

We recommend that this mount is placed in high traffic areas of your home.  The Foyer, the Kitchen and the Hallway make great sense.  Don't forget that you can use myPhotos to setup a slideshow when you aren't using the iPad as a control system.  Reflect on your kid's pictures and some great vacation memories as you walk by.

The iPort Surface with buttons requires an ethernet (Cat5/6) cable with POE (Power over Ethernet).  The iPort must be on the same network as myServer.

Typical network diagram:

  • networking hub w/ POE <<<>>>iPort POE adapter <<<>>>iPort mount
  • same networking hub <<<>>> myServer PC

If your hub does not support POE, you can purchase a POE injector for just the iPort:

networking hub <<<>>> POE injector <<<>>> iPort POE adapter <<<>>> iPort mount

Configure and physically install the iPort following the directions they provide.

 Install myServer's iPort driver

Installation:
  1. Purchase the Control Family license (if you haven't already received that from Allonis)
  2. Download the iPort driver from myInstaller and install it on the myServer PC
  3. Restart myServer
  4. Apply your Control Family license to myServer's Licensing tab.
  5. Go into the driver's settings and add the iPort's IP address and port (default is 10001)
  6. Ensure that your network / firewall allows this port's traffic to reach myServer
