Have you tried taking your remote down the street to out of range of your wifi? The lack of wifi signal may be enough to kick the smart remote out of whatever loop it is in.
Thank you for your suggestion. I disabled my two access points and confirmed that other devices lost wi-fi connectivity. I then tried rebooting the SmartRemote a couple of times, but it still got to the circle screen and hung at that point.
