There is some control over screen brightness from the smartremote.apk. But the limitation is we can't turn the screen OFF. This seems to be a limitation of the AndroidOS.I tried this as well with the same result. The adaptive brightness toggle in the display settings is probably a dead end as I don't think the remote has the hardware necessary to leverage it.

Understood. I'm aware that this is a longstanding android issue. The problem is that the screen isn't dimming down either, or at least not consistently. There is some control over screen brightness from the smartremote.apk. I don't remember if the screen display brightness is currently exposed as a myServer command...probably something that can be added if not. But it won't turn the screen Off, even if a zero value is sent to it (unfortunately).
I have just gotten in the habit of turning the remote onto it's face during critical movie watching

It's apparently and AndroidOS issue as it relates to Apps. No known fix today.I don't understand why the android screen timeout doesn't work. If I'm in the web browser or any of the other apps then the screen turns off after inactivity. Why wouldn't that work for the smartremote app as well?
