myServer should be regularily backed up in case there is hardware failure (most all failures have been caused by power cycling the system which will corrupt the boot drive). It is also very easy to share your system configurations and customizations with others.
To do so, there is a Backup command that can be run as a scheduled task (weekly?), or as an automation event (when the UPS detects power is dropping to "40%"?), or from a button push on the user interface or from the Dashboard Command Builder. This command puts a copy of the database into the myServer\backups directory. You can save those files to a backup USB or hard drive or server.
Selecting from the dropdowns will build commands like:
Command: BackupDatabase|AllonisHome1-myServer6-Thursday, 30-January-2025 05.16 PM.bak
Result: AllonisHome1-myServer6-Thursday, 30-January-2025 05.16 PM.bak
Command: BackupLicense
Result: license-Thursday, 30-January-2025.bak
Command: BackupTemplate|smartremote
Result: smartremote-Thursday, 30-January-2025.zip
To Restore a fresh "Master Image myServer"
Ensure myServer launches.
Shut down myServer.
Copy the backup files into the new myServer backup folder.
Run the Restore Database command and select the correct backup name ie: AllonisHome1-myServer6-Thursday, 30-January-2025 05.16 PM.bak
Do the same for the Restore License and Restore Template commands, choosing which template you want to restore. Ensure your new drive doesn't have same name template folders that you want to keep.
Install all drivers and apps that the new system will be requiring for the devices available. Recommended is to not install more drivers than is actually needed.
Restart myServer and your system should now be running from the backup configuration.
You can share your custom web templates or individual web pages with other myServer users. You can share your macros and automation events simply by copy / paste the text into Allonis's forum, or to a text file that the end user can copy / paste into their system. Certainly those macros and automation events might need tweeking to adjust the appropriate device IDs for the target system. Certainly the target system needs it's own license (available for purchase from Allonis's Shop).
7/15/2025: myServer release introduces the ability to perform a cloud backup of critical myServer data.
What gets backed up?
The server will send:
- a backup of the myServer database
- the server’s license file
- all custom project templates outside the ones that get installed with myServer
- if the user has Digital Signage, then the signage media files are included in the backup
Each project template is compressed to a standard zip file before being uploaded.
All uploaded files, with the exception of the license file, are time stamped to denote upload date and time.
Where do the files get uploaded to?
All files go to a special folder on the Allonis cloud server.
How do you preform the backup?
Open the Dashboard Configuration/Subscriptions page and click on the Do Cloud Backup button.
Or issue the server command BackupToCloud.
Once your system has been backed up to the Allonis cloud, you can contact Allonis if you need to restore your system to the backup.
