MyDesigner Crashes when Adding Overlay

User CSIJBLE suggested using the windows Explorer (Windows File Explorer) to  attempt to access those files. You have never indicated what were the results of that.

It really does appear to be a file permission issue. It may be that your current permissions are read only, not read write, which could cause that crash.

Map a network drive to your Allonis server,  test the access outside of the designer (both read and write), then set the designer to use that mapped drive. Report back your results.

I leave the map connected full time. It also helps when it is backup time.

If it's a sharing issue how can I access all the project files on the Pi?   Doesn't make sense.  But I'll look at installing an SMB share on the Pi.  This is no where in the documentation that I can find.

You shouldn't need to install anything on the Pi.  In Windows file manager, RMB on the Network folder, and choose Map Network Drive.

Don't try to browse to it.  Just type in the share:  \\192.168.10.252\myserver
 

I am not up fully on Linux permissions, but usually the permissions to access files and directories are set on the host system. The host system also specifies what files and directories external systems can access.

So you might need to set those permissions on the Allonis server. I believe the Linux command is "CHMOD".  Note that the Allonis directory that the smart remote's projects are in might also need to be set to allow files to be created, in addition to being edited.

Also, the server usually sets external permissions based on the remote system's user id specified when connecting. Be sure to use the user id when mapping that allows the proper access. I had to use the default user id that Allonis set when they set up the PI (I did not want to bother figuring out other ways to set that user id).
