Have you tried looking at the remote emitter on the SmartRemote using a digital camera e.g. phone camera? If it's transmitting anything you should be able to see it blink on the phone screen as it can pick up the IR where a human eye can't.

Is there a easy way to reset the remote to its default settings? I was playing around with the screen brightness. Thinking maybe I might have hit something fat fingers small screen. Nothing else seems to be fixing it and no one else is reporting issues

Thanks

You could shut down the AndroidTV driver (or shut down myServer)
And restart the smartremote.
then, it won't try to connect to myserver once it realizes it's not available. You can then shutdown the apk and go to Android Settings and explore if you changed a setting there.
Not sure what settings would disable the IR emitter.

If it were my system, I would add a IP2IR and eliminate the SmartRemote IR blaster from the mix.  It's just easier and far more flexible.
Especially if you start to use the smartphone and tablet user interfaces from same room or elsewhere.

This is frustrating as can't access the android desktop, setting, or application setting, the smart remote app keeps restarting and taking focus.

Thats why you shut down AndroidTV driver or shutdown myServer.
You can also issue a
AV|324~Monitor~Off
where 324 is your AndroidTV driver SmartRemote ID
That turns off the feature which is to keep the SmartRemote (or digital signage players) always online with myServer's smartremote template (or whatever template the smartremote is programmed for).
