Have you guys made any progress on this in your research? I don't use a Roku but not being able to bring up submenu's with a long press on my Nvidia Shield is a total bummer. I actually use this feature quite a lot.
I haven't actually dug into it any further, but I do have a thought on what I'm going to try. As noted above the Roku interface has keydown and keyup commands, so I think I'm going to try and make a macro that sends keydown, waits, and then keyup. And then I'm probably going to assign it to the "..." button, or maybe the hamburger button. If it works it will take a little getting used to (not long pressing enter) but should work pretty well.
That said, I agree that it would be nice if a way to choose the way the Smartremote buttons work. Perhaps 3 modes would be ideal:
The current Short Press vs Long Press send macro a vs b,
Something more typical, just repeat the command
And maybe a KeyDown/KeyUp mode.
Oh another thought, is it possible for there to be a larger hold time difference between long press and numlock on the home button? I'm getting better, but I often end up hitting numlock when trying to long press the home button. I really have to pay attention and watch the remote for the long-press icon to show up and let go before the numlock shows up.
