Weather Alerts - 7/27/2026

As far as I know, the NWS does not do push notifications. Push notificaitons can be sent by third party private apps (like Open Weather Map, that you can install). The NWS will activate weather radios (using a special broadcast signal), and can also broadcast messages through the cell phone companies (which is done for things like tornado alerts and such). Weather apps have to regularly poll the NWS to otherwise receive alerts.

Alerts are coded to apply to the area concerned (by zones, or if you will grids). Alerts from the cell phone companies or applications running on your phone can be provided because they know your approximate location based on the cell tower you are currently connected to. Allonis only knows your location from the information you give it. I regularly poll the NWS for alerts, and do not see any problems. Of course I am using the Los Angeles National Weather Station as my source, not the ones you are using (and I do not use Allonis for my weather information, either).
 

Those alerts are still active in Phoenix so I checked Allonis and it is showing both of them!!  Yay!!  But it didn't last night.   Hmmmm.  It's like there's a time lag or something.   I also see something like that back home in MI when the temps drop at night Allonis weather seems to lag in timing or something as the Allonis temps are almost always significantly higher than expected.   Temps reported by personal weather stations and the local NWS station KPTK are usually pretty consistent with each other and are 3-5 degrees lower that that reported by Allonis.   (And I hate to keep calling it "Allonis" because I know it's a 3rd party service but not sure how else to reference it.)

I think everything is there for a solid Allonis weather app but something is out of kilter and I'm not sure what.

If the Alerts show up, then they are working. The myServer code doesn't hold up anything. So, the weather source is what it is.

If we knew what the weather was really going to be tomorrow, we wouldn't have to work anymore. Just like the stock market

Thanks David.  I'm sorry but I'm still skeptical.  I perused NWS warnings today and then added the applicable city to Allonis to see if there was an alert in there.  Did this maybe 5 times and only once was the alert showing in Allonis.  I'm not going to post anymore screenshots.   This is easy for someone to test on their own.   Go to the NWS link below for thunderstorm alerts, then add the city to Allonis to see if something is there.   These are transient events and you have to be quick.  They are useless if not timely.  I tracked a severe thunderstorm in Miami today until the alert expired and it never appeared in Allonis.  If anyone has better luck than me please advise cuz maybe I'm doing something wrong?
