I'm noticing a fair amount of latency when using the NVIDIA Shield driver (setup = SmartRemote with Hard Buttons programmed to use commands like AV|{{active_shieldtv_{{clientname}}}}~SendKey~ENTER)

Does anybody have any other approaches? I'm curious if maybe using the IR on the SmartRemote to send the NVIDIA's remotes IR codes would be faster.

I have a 2019 Shield Pro.  The remote is bluetooth, not IR.

I tried using a FLIRC (a usb device with an IR reciever) and an IR remote.  The problem I was having is that sometimes I would hit a button and nothing happens, and other times a single tap would fire the button two or three times.  I got the Alllonis Smart Remote so that I could drive the Shield using IP instead of IR.

Using the ADB driver, the response is noticeably slow, but tolerable, with the exception of the navigation keys.

The most promising solution is the Video Storm irUSB device.  Allonis just added a driver for this, but I have not received the device from Video Storm yet.

I've not got a Shield but the last time I tried it the Android ADB based network control of my Amazon FireTV stick was rather slow too. I had the bright idea that I might be able to send commands over wifi to a Raspberry Pi Zero pretending to be a USB keyboard and on googling I find that someone has beaten me to it. So this might be another option: mtlynch.io/key-mime-pi/ (and it developed into github.com/tiny-pilot/tinypilot ).

I'm using an IrUSB from VideoStorm. There is a driver for it already in myServer. works great, much happier than ADB (which the wife noticed the lag instantly and disapproved)...

Thank you all for the suggestions! I decided to order an IR USB from Video Storm. Let's see how that goes
