Device not responding

I've had this issue a few times.  I press a button on the remote to execute a macro.  There is a long delay where command presses don't work.

In the log I can see that the Global Cache IP2IR device cannot be reached.

But...a few lines later, after pushing the button again, it works fine.  

It's almost as if the Global Cache device enters a sleep mode.  Any ideas?

Just a thought - ensure you have the IP2IR static network addressed and not DHCP...possibly it's falling off the network (why?) and it needs to get an IP address. Are you using Wifi or ethernet? Certainly ethernet should be more reliable.

The devices were setup for DHCP with a reserved address. I switched them to static this morning...

All are connected to ethernet and the network is very stable. The issue is that the device is not found, or doesn't respond with the first command set, then it works 10 seconds after that.. Once it is "alive" all is good. Both of my Global Cache devices exhibit this behavior.

I've also noticed that when pinging the device (after not in use for a while), the first reply is delayed... ~25-40ms and the following ones are 4-5ms.

Weird stuff!

Looking in the logs, this shows up more than I would like...

Hopefully the static address with help. I was wondering if others experienced this. If so, it might be worth building into the GenericIR driver a "keep alive" packet that fires every so often...

Just a thought..

FYI - I just created a cron job on one of my linux boxes to ping the devices once every 10 minutes.  I will let you know if that fixes the issue.

All the drivers will try to maintain a permanent connection to the device when the protocol allows it. The GenIR driver will attempt to reconnect 10 seconds after a device disconnects. The next time you see this issue please turn on verbose logging in the driver in question so that we can get a better picture of what it is doing.
